Printmaker Tonja Torgerson to speak on Thursday
Printmaker Tonja Torgerson will discuss her work at a conference Thursday, September 23 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Torgerson is the printmaking coordinator and visiting professor at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design at Indiana University. The lecture takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the John C. Guyon Auditorium at the Morris Library and is part of the university’s guest artist program., sponsored by the School of Art and Design.
Admission is free and the public is invited. The SIU is committed to protecting the community, so everyone who attends this event should wear masks and follow current campus and state safety protocols in the event of a pandemic.
Torgerson’s works are regularly exhibited nationally and internationally and are part of numerous private and museum collections, including the Weisman Art Museum and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. His recent work deals with death and the impermanent nature of the body.
Torgerson has taught at the Penland School of Craft, the Kansas City Art Institute, and West Virginia Wesleyan College.
She received a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Minnesota.
